Pest control FAQs

How does the Polti Cimex Eradicator work?

The Polti Cimex Eradicator is a steam generator that uses a special Polti patented gun which allows steam to be superheated to 180°C, the temperature required to kill bedbugs* through thermal shock. The high temperature of the steam kills all types of microorganisms, viruses, germs and bacteria**.

**Tests carried out by third-party independent laboratories certify that the Polti Cimex Eradicator kills up to 99.999% of viruses, germs, bacteria, fungi and spores.

What kind of water does it use?

The Polti Cimex Eradicator was designed to function with normal medium-hardness tap water between 8° and 20°f. If the tap water contains a lot of calcium carbonate, use a mix composed of 50% tap water and 50% widely-available demineralised water. Do not use pure demineralised water. For information about water hardness, please contact your local municipality.

How does the Polti Cimex Eradicator kill bedbugs and other microorganisms?

Bedbugs are killed by thermal shock. The steam from the Polti Cimex Eradicator can reach temperatures of up to 180°C, which is extremely efficient in penetrating nests. Laboratory tests have demonstrated that it is able to eliminate up to 90% of adult insects with the first pass.

Does the Polti Cimex Eradicator also kill the eggs?

The Polti Cimex Eradicator is also effective against eggs. It eliminates 100% of eggs in one pass.

Is the Polti Cimex Eradicator a safe system?

The correct use of the Polti Cimex Eradicator guarantees the elimination of bedbugs, making the environment healthier. For instructions on how to use the Polti Cimex Eradicator correctly, please refer to the instruction manual.

Does the Polti Cimex Eradicator require the use of insecticides?

How much energy does the Polti Cimex Eradicator consume?

The Polti Cimex Eradicator has a maximum power of 2,250 W and consumes as much as a normal household appliance, for the limited time of the treatment.

Is the Polti Cimex Eradicator also effective against other insects/mites/does it eliminate other microorganisms too?

The Polti Cimex Eradicator disinfects the surfaces treated. It is an effective aid in eliminating bedbugs*, mites, viruses, bacteria and fungi**. It is not effective against extremely light or highly mobile insects.

*Tests carried out by a third-party independent laboratory certify that the Polti Cimex Eradicator kills 100% of eggs and 90% of adult bed bugs with the first pass.
**Tests carried out by third-party independent laboratories certify that the Polti Cimex Eradicator kills up to 99.999% of viruses, germs, bacteria, fungi and spores.

Can the Polti Cimex Eradicator be used for other purposes in addition to eliminating bedbugs?

The Polti Cimex Eradicator can be used to disinfect spaces from viruses, germs and bacteria** and can be turned into a steam cleaner by purchasing the Steam Cleaning & Disinfection Kit (Code PAEU0393).

What are the signs that bedbugs may be present?

Bedbugs are visible to the naked eye at all stages of their life cycle. To the untrained eye, it may be difficult to detect newborn bedbugs and eggs. Bedbugs are small oval-shaped parasites that are rust-red in colour and 5-6 mm long when adults. They feed exclusively on blood, but do not permanently remain on the host’s body. They only come into contact with the host’s body to feed and then prefer to spend the rest of their time well hidden in close proximity to the places where the host sleeps or spends a lot of time. By carefully examining your sheets, you may find traces of blood from the bites or residual faecal stains and old exoskeletons in any cracks, folds of fabric or seams. The host may become aware of the parasites due to the bites on the exposed parts of their bodies (e.g. arms, face, etc.).

Where do bedbugs nest?

Bedbugs spend most of their time hiding in extremely narrow places, such as cracks, folds of fabric, seams, small tears in pillows, mattresses, netting, electrical sockets, paintings, bedside tables, wall-mounted lamps, curtains, skirting boards, door and window frames, sofas and armchairs. They prefer to remain close to the host, and it is only when the infestation has taken over the entire room that the insects may hide everywhere, located concentrically from where the host is sleeping.

Can I use my Polti Vaporetto to kill bedbugs?

Yes, if your Polti Vaporetto model is suitable, you can purchase the Polti Sani System Gun accessory that superheats the steam to 180°C and kills bedbugs through thermal shock. The Polti Sani System Gun can be connected to the Polti Vaporetto or the Polti Vaporetto Lecoaspira if the models are compatible (code PAEU0367 for the Polti Vaporetto and code PAEU0368 for the Polti Vaporetto Lecoaspira).
